    Quick Facts about Castleisland

Castleisland calls itself the Gateway to Kerry, and rightly so. Its famously wide main street is one of the broadest in Ireland, built for fairs and markets that once brought the whole region together. Today, it still feels like the heart of something — a town that looks after its own and keeps local traditions close.
There's history here too. The name comes from the old castle built by Geoffrey de Marisco in the 13th century, surrounded by water to create the impression of an island. That same blend of character and calm shows up in the way locals mark occasions. Flowers here are rarely just decoration — they're chosen with care. Whether it's a soft bouquet for a family gathering or a colourful bunch for a birthday, local florists know what fits. In summer, foxgloves and meadowsweet brighten up the verges around town, bringing a wild edge to a place that already knows how to bloom.
